There are two things that separate Insight Guides from the rest, one is the amount of Pictures it contains and second is that it's an assortment of information from local guides, historians, and photographers. There is a history section, a brief overview of local customs, a section on the people, and a section that guides you through each major city or province in a country(Sections are all color coded for ease of use). Points of interest are discussed briefly and then given a number and marked off on a map to give an itinerary. For example) The gotic quarter in barcelona will be discussed briefly and then given 1) and then they'll discuss a close surrounding area like La Ramblas 2). The pictures on each page also give you things to look out for so you don't miss exciting events/customs or if you are lost and need a reference point. The back of the book gives restaurant and hotel recommendations by city/province and price. And it has a section with common phrases, how to use transportation, and basic info like money conversion, events to check out etc. I will say that this book isn't as detailed (historically or about points of interest, assuming you'll learn that stuff on tours and through guides/books) as some other guides. For some maybe it would be a better secondary guide or reading material for the plane/leading up to the trip. I find it more than enough for me as I'd rather hear things or read about things first hand anyways. All in all I'd say this is a must have because it's pictures and brief articles make it user friendly and it's very easy to use to help plan a trip around, plus this is up to date as it was recently released.Product details

Spain Insight Guides Insight Guide 9789812822581 Books Reviews
I've been to Spain three times in the past few years and am in the process of planning trip number four. As such, I have read most of the major travel guides; I've been to the key websites; I visit TripAdvisor religiously; and I join the Spain travel sites on Facebook. Each offers its own nugget of information, but there is a lot of redundancy.
Of all the travel guides I reference, the Insight Guide is by far my favorite. This Guide is much more than just a travel book. Yes, it hits on the key regions and sites, but unlike many other sources, it greatly illuminates the reader's perspective on a diverse and fascinating country. While most travel books start off by highlighting the main points about a city or museum, this book devotes no fewer than 50 pages to the history of Spain. If you are the kind of visitor who doesn't care about such things, this may not be the book for you.
As the other reviewer noted, the photographs in this book are top-rate. Rather than just including shots of Sagrada Familia or The Prado, however, there are plenty of photos of the people and scenes of Spain, including several of the art you will see when you visit. While it is difficult to gain a good overview of a region as diverse as Spain from one book, these authors do an impressive job in this regard.
If you are going to Spain for the fist time, you will probably want to reference other guidebooks in addition to this one. Those will give you more of a list of 'must see' choices than will this. But if you want to broaden your perspective on Spain---especially beyond Barcelona and Madrid---this is a great book.
I always purchase an Insight guide when planning for a vacation to a country that I've never visited. I love reading about the history and culture prior to my visit - but I found that I like rereading about the specific places visited long after my vacation has ended. We used this insight guide last year in Barcelona, Grenada, Rhonda, and Madrid and found it to be super helpful.
